Hosted each week by The Broke and the Bookish, it's a meme for listing the top ten for everything bookish.
It is very easy for me to not like a romance in a book and if I don't like the romance, it can ruin the whole book for me.
What I Like
1. Friendship Romances
I just love friendship romances! They are just so adorable and shipworthy!
2. Hate to Love
As much as I love to ship friendship romances, THIS TRUMPS ALL! For some reason, I really really like shipping romances that begin with them hating each other!
3. Slow-going
If it happens too fast, where's the fun? I also can't ship the hate-to-love/friendship romances, or even ship in general, if it happens too quickly!
What I Don't Like
4. Insta-Love
Do I really need to explain this?
5. Stealing the Show

5. Stealing the Show
This is very common in YA books. The romance in the book basically becomes the entire focal point in the book, while the plot takes a backseat. I like romance in books, but I would like an actual plot to take the show.
6. Romance in situations that, really, they have more important things to do.
I get really annoyed when the characters are running for their lives and they start kissing. Ummmm. Really, guys? I'm surprised you haven't been caught yet, since you're not running away! Then there are those that are SAVING THE FREXING WORLD, at least, they are supposed to. They would be saving the world IF THEY WOULD STOP KISSING! Gosh, aren't I glad that millions of lives are in their hands!
7. No Emotion
I have read books where the characters kiss and profess love, but there is no feeling behind it! There is nothing but a few kisses and 'but I love him'. There are no butterflies or flickers of feeling. There isn't even a transition from a crush to love. It's just BAM!
I know this was only 7 things, but I couldn't think of any more!
What do you guys hate/like in book romances?

I very much agree with #6! Like somehow you have enough time to make out while running away?! please share your secret because i can't even find time to make out while laying on the couch. wtf.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT :]
I very much agree with you when it comes to number 6. I really should have added that one to my list!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my TTT.
I love friendship romances! They're so cute! Meanwhile, insta-love makes me want to hurl my book out the window...
ReplyDeleteWe all pretty much hate Instalove! It's just unrealistic, even for fiction. There should always be some basis for two people to be in love. ;)

No emotion drive me crazy too!! Here's my link to my TTT for this week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2015/02/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-things-i.html
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I love when the romance is slow going and gradual because then it makes it seem a lot more realistic in my opinion. I really don't like no emotion romances either! They bother me >.>
