REVIEW: Scared Little Rabbits by A.V. Geiger

Scared Little Rabbits

We stand in a tight cluster, high above the lake. One-by-one, we made our way up the narrow trail from the edge of campus. Now, we wait shoulder to shoulder behind the police tape. Nineteen summer students.

All but one.

When Nora gets accepted into her dream summer program at the prestigious Winthrop Academy, she jumps at the chance to put her coding skills to use. But then a fellow student goes missing—and the tech trail for the crime leads back to Nora. With no one else to trust, Nora must race to uncover the truth and clear her name...or she might be the next to disappear.
MY THOUGHTS
I picked this book up without really knowing much about it. I needed a December release and I happened to have liked  A.V. Geiger's Follow Me Back series.

Like her last series, this is a mystery/thriller but it is a standalone. It takes place at a summer coding program at a prestigious school. Our main character, Nora, is a lot like the main character in Follow Me Back. She carries some social anxiety and feels like no matter how hard she tries she cannot fit in with the others at the school. She is smart, but so is everybody else. She meets a boy, but he just so happens to already have a girlfriend.

Like the last book, this one felt like candy to me to read. I found some plot points annoying, but I still wanted to keep reading and I actually enjoy how she writes thrillers. I was not big on the romance (It is difficult for me to like romance in a book though). It was a little instant, but at least it read more like instant attraction rather than insta-love. I think part of it was that the love interest did not seem very interesting to me? So I did not really understand why Nora was so hung up on him.

It takes a little while for the mystery to pick up. We get a teaser in the beginning and throughout the book there are online entries from Eleanor (the rich-girl who is kind of dating the love interest). It was intriguing how the mystery was slowly revealed, but I wish more time was spent on the mystery rather than the romance. By the end, I will admit that I had no idea how things would come together and things really picked up.

IN CONCLUSION
Overall, I did like this book. It was admittedly a little fun to read even though some things were not very realistic. I might read more from this author in the future.

I hereby give this book
3 Stars
Meaning: I liked it
