Cover Lust: Mila 2.0 by Debra Driza

Cover Lust is something that I do every week where I feature a book cover that I absolutely love!

MILA 2.0 (MILA 2.0, #1)Mila 2.0 is the first book in an electrifying sci-fi thriller series about a teenage girl who discovers that she is an experiment in artificial intelligence.

Mila was never meant to learn the truth about her identity. She was a girl living with her mother in a small Minnesota town. She was supposed to forget her past—that she was built in a secret computer science lab and programmed to do things real people would never do.

Now she has no choice but to run—from the dangerous operatives who want her terminated because she knows too much and from a mysterious group that wants to capture her alive and unlock her advanced technology. However, what Mila’s becoming is beyond anyone’s imagination, including her own, and it just might save her life.

Mila 2.0 is Debra Driza’s bold debut and the first book in a Bourne Identity-style trilogy that combines heart-pounding action with a riveting exploration of what it really means to be human. Fans of I Am Number Four will love Mila for who she is and what she longs to be—and a cliffhanger ending will leave them breathlessly awaiting the sequel.

Cover vs. Cover: Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan

This week's pick is...

Unspoken (The Lynburn Legacy, #1)VS.  Unspoken (The Lynburn Legacy, #1)
Original                             Redesign
I really really like the original cover!  I love the silhouettes and the illustrated aspect to it! And I admit, I liked the pink. It just looked like a fun yet creepy book, which was exactly what it turned out to be! And then, of course, they changed the cover. The redesign is not a horrible cover, but after the amazing original, I just could not lke it. It doesn't help that the cover looks like almost every other teen paranormal cover.
Final Verdict: Original

Do you agree? Give me your thoughts on which cover is the best!

REVIEW: My Last Kiss by Bethany Neal

My Last Kiss
What if your last kiss was with the wrong boy?

Cassidy Haines remembers her first kiss vividly. It was on the old covered bridge the summer before her freshman year with her boyfriend of three years, Ethan Keys. But her last kiss—the one she shared with someone at her seventeenth birthday party the night she died—is a blur. Cassidy is trapped in the living world, not only mourning the loss of her human body, but left with the grim suspicion that her untimely death wasn’t a suicide as everyone assumes. She can’t remember anything from the weeks leading up to her birthday and she’s worried that she may have betrayed her boyfriend.

If Cassidy is to uncover the truth about that fateful night and make amends with the only boy she’ll ever love, she must face her past and all the decisions she made—good and bad—that led to her last kiss.

Bethany Neal’s suspenseful debut novel is about the power of first love and the haunting lies that threaten to tear it apart.

MY THOUGHTS
This book was completely unexpected! Based on the title and the synopsis, I was expecting a girl who was unfaithful before she died, which didn't sound like my kind of story. But I have a very odd fascination with the afterlife, so I decided to read this anyway. It was nothing like  thought it would be! Maybe I didn't look at the synopsis closely enough, but this book is more of a murder mystery, expect from the point-of-view of the victim who is, of course, dead.

Yes, kissing is involved in this book, but the book is devoted to Cassidy trying to remember what happened on her last day to cause her death. Not really the kind of afterlife I expected, but I still found it interesting. A ghost trying to find his/her murderer is a common theme in books and movies but usually, said ghost remembers what happened at least partially and a living person is trying to figure this out. But this book is told entirely from Cassidy's perspective. Sure, she did get some help from the living with is my only issue with this book.

<highlight to view spoiler>Ethan, Cassidy's boyfriend when alive, was the only one who could see or hear. I found it very unbelievable that her boyfriend was the only one who could see or hear her. It was never really explained why either.<end of spoiler>

IN CONCLUSION
This is a great, suspenseful stand-alone! I had such a hard time putting it down! It was such an unexpected read and I actually ended up enjoying it. I recommend this book to those who enjoy mysteries and/or suspense with a few unusual elements.

I do look forward to reading more from Bethany Neal!

Although no longer bound to Titus by a blood oath, Iolanthe is more committed than ever to fulfilling her destiny—especially with the agents of Atlantis quickly closing in.

Soon after arriving at school, though, Titus makes a shocking discovery, one that makes him question everything he previously believed about their mission. Faced with this devastating realization, Iolanthe is forced to come to terms with her new role, while Titus must choose between following his mother's prophecies—and forging a divergent path to an unknowable future.

REVIEW: The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau

The Testing (The Testing, #1)
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Isn’t that what they say? But how close is too close when they may be one in the same?

The Seven Stages War left much of the planet a charred wasteland. The future belongs to the next generation’s chosen few who must rebuild it. But to enter this elite group, candidates must first pass The Testing—their one chance at a college education and a rewarding career.

Cia Vale is honored to be chosen as a Testing candidate; eager to prove her worthiness as a University student and future leader of the United Commonwealth. But on the eve of her departure, her father’s advice hints at a darker side to her upcoming studies--trust no one.

But surely she can trust Tomas, her handsome childhood friend who offers an alliance? Tomas, who seems to care more about her with the passing of every grueling (and deadly) day of the Testing. To survive, Cia must choose: love without truth or life without trust.

MY THOUGHTS
I just have to start off with saying this: This is not another Hunger Games. I see a lot of reviews complaining about how similar this book is to The Hunger Games and how this is just a copy. Yes, these books are very similar to one another (especially the last half), but there are more differences. And it is a dystopian book. Every dystopian book has something in common with The Hunger Games, it happens.

Anyway, now that I got that out of the way! I'm actually writing this book after reading this for the 2nd time and I still enjoyed reading this book the 2nd time around! This book is well-written and definitely original!
I was very fascinated with The Testing, I thought it was horrible what society was doing to these teens , but I thought that the idea was very interesting and very well thought-out. I really liked out main character, Cia. It is very obvious why she's in The Testing. She's an absolute genius and can figure problems out. She's also a very strong leader. Not the kind that The Testing is looking for, as they are looking for those who do not care for human life, but she is the kind of leader that should actually lead.

The only issue that I had was the romance. It's not bad, I actually like the love interest, but I found it a bit ridiculous. I honestly felt like The Testing was not the time for romance.

IN CONCLUSION
This book is kind of a hit or miss for most people, to be honest. Like I said, many people complain about Hunger Games parallels and those people don't enjoy the book. My advice: Do not compare this book while reading it. It will ruin the experience for you.

Now, I, enjoyed reading this book (again!) and will definitely continue the trilogy! That was actually the whole point of me rereading this...

I hereby give this book

Top Ten Tuesday:Top Ten Books I Really Want To Own

Hosted each week by The Broke and the Bookish, it's a meme for listing the top ten for everything bookish.
Okay, I'm changing this one up a little bit. The actual topic is "Top Ten Books I Really Want To Read But Don't Own Yet", but if I want to read a book, I usually check it out from the library and if I like it, I buy it later.  So I'm changing this to "Top Ten Books I Really Want To Own".

The covers are linked to Goodreads!

Yeah, this isn't out yet, but it comes out very soon! And I'm definitely going to buy a copy RIGHT WHEN IT COMES OUT!!!

I haven't read this one yet because MY LIBRARY DOESN'T HAVE IT!!! So, as I wish to continue the series, I really want a copy.

Same as the previous one.

Okay, this is technically cheating, because I actually already own a copy of Shatter Me, but I own the Prom Dress Version and I want the new cover to match the other books in the series.
(I've already read this book by the way. About 3 times...)

I've read this before, more than once, but I do not own a copy! This is the only book in The Blood of Eden series that I do not own a copy of! Heck! It's the only Julie Kagawa book that I don't own (excluding Talon which I would definitely own if it were out!). So I really need it...

I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS SERIES!
Yes, I've read this one, too. And I have an ebook copy, but I need a physical copy!
I need it to look amazing on my bookshelf, right next to Fractured!

I've read all the books, but I own the last two books and I need the complete set! I also need this cover...

I've read this, but IT'S SO GOOD!!!!
I NEED THIS ON MY SHELF!

READ THIS, BUT I NEED TO OWN ALL OF MORGAN MATSON'S BOOKS!

AGAIN!

What about you? What books do you want to own?

REVIEW: Grasping at Eternity by Karen Amanda Hooper

Grasping at Eternity (The Kindrily, #1)
Leave it to Maryah Woodsen to break the one rule that will screw up eternity: Never erase your memories.

Before entering this life, Maryah did the unthinkable—she erased. Now, at seventeen years old, she’s clueless that her new adoptive family has known her for centuries, that they are perpetually reincarnated souls, and that they have supernatural abilities. Oh, and she's supposed to love (not despise) Nathan, the green-eyed daredevil who saved her life.

Nathan is convinced his family’s plan to spark Maryah's memory is hopeless, but his love for her is undying. After spending (and remembering) so many lifetimes together, being around an empty version of his soulmate is heart shattering. He hates acting like a stalker, but has no choice because the evil outcast who murdered Maryah in their last lifetime is still after her.

While Maryah’s hunter inches closer, she and Nathan make assumptions and hide secrets that rip them further apart. Maryah has to believe in the magic within her, Nathan must have faith in the power of their love, and both need to grasp onto the truth before they lose each other forever—and discover just how lonely eternity can be.

I received an ecopy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

MY THOUGHTS
The idea of reincarnation is an idea that has always intrigued me! I just find the idea that one person could have possibly lived many different lifetimes incredibly fascinating! But I always have trouble finding books that successfully do this. This is because reincarnation in books almost always focuses on soul mates. And, unfortunately, this is one of them.

A lot of people may enjoy books with the whole soul mate thing, but I not a big fan of books with too much of a focus on romance and yes, this book did focus on that. I also don't believe in soul mates. Sorry, but I find that idea ridiculous and cliche.

There was a few other things that were turn offs for me. I was a bit annoyed because the entire book was basically Maryah having no idea what's going on and her kindrily (those who were her family in past lives) not telling her anything. It made too much drama and I couldn't help but feel sorry for Maryah because she was very confused (Although, I loved how she noticed how her 'family' said odd things and acted in strange ways! Many books don't point those things out!). The plot was also very predictable, as I've seen many similar plots in lots of other YA books. But, to be honest, these things weren't really a big deal to me. The soul mate thing was my major problem.

Now, I don't want to bash and bash on this book, because this is not a terrible book! I could tell the author is a wonderful writer! And the ideas in this book are completely original and complex! I can't go into full-on detail on what the reincarnation is like and the kindrly because it's much better to hear these things on your own (and the book would do a much better job at explaining it!). I also liked the beginning focus of the plot, where Maryah doesn't have any memory. I found this to be very curious.

IN CONCLUSION
My main problem is that this book is just not my thing. Back when I added this book onto my TBR list (2 years ago) I was really into paranormal romances and yes, I was perfectly fine with cliche. But I'm now not a big fan of either paranormal or romances. They're just no longer my thing. So, I'm not going to tell people to not read this book because a lot of people like this book! It has a 4.09 average rating on Goodreads! So, if you like paranormal romance, books with soul mates, original ideas, and semi-predictable plots, then you should read this book! But if your like me and prefer a little less romance, pass this one up.

As far as reading the sequel, I'm going to go with no. I still have some questions, but this book series isn't really my thing so I see no point in continuing.

I hereby give this book
