Top Ten Tuesday: For a Rainy Day!

Hosted each week by That Artsy Reader Girl, it's a meme for listing the top ten for everything bookish.

Hello, hello! Today's topic is "Rainy Day Reads". Now, I'm not sure exactly what that means because to me a "Rainy Day Read" is any book! A rainy day is a lot like a normal day to me, so there is no particular genre that I would go for on a rainy day. But lately I've been seeing books around that I would really like to reread, so here are some books I would love to read again some "rainy day".
(All covers are linked to Goodreads)

What books would you read on a rainy day?

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Songs That Get Stuck in My Head

Hosted each week by That Artsy Reader Girl, it's a meme for listing the top ten for everything bookish.

Good morning, folks! This week's topic is anything goes as long as it's about audio! I love to listen to music and audiobooks, but when I'm not listening to anything, my brain is playing some tunes. Today I thought it would be interesting to talk about earworms, those pesky songs that get stuck in your head!

Now, I'm not talking about when you're listening to a playlist and after you take your earphones out the last song you listened to plays around in your head. No, no, no. I'm talking about those tunes that sneak up on you. The ones that pop in whenever you are just going about your day. And today I am listing some of the songs I've found to have the pesky habit of getting stuck in my head.

1. Burning Love
Specifically the cover version from the end of Lilo & Stitch. For some reason, it is always that version that gets stuck in my head and it gets stuck in my head all the time. This is the song that my brain loves to default to whenever it can't think of another song to play on repeat in my head. This is likely a side effect from being obsessed with Lilo & Stitch when I was eight.
2. I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
This song is just so easy to get stuck in my head. Also, if this song is stuck in my head, I'm definitely singing it out loud.
3. Anything from Schoolhouse Rock
This one is kind of cheating because I'm grouping a whole bunch of songs together, but I grew up with Schoolhouse Rock and it is so so easy for me to get Schoolhouse Rock songs stuck in my head.  Just today I had Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla stuck in my head because my Mom said a line from the song. I decided to link up Three is the Magic Number though because it is the reason I love the number three so much.
4. Ghostbusters Theme
This one is really strange because I have never seen Ghostbusters. I know, I know. I need to fix that. It's just odd that it's in my head so often, sometimes it's just the tune, other times it's with the lyrics.
5. Indiana Jones Theme
I have a habit of making nonsense tunes when I'm anxious or don't want to think about something. For a while though, it would always turn into the Indiana Jones theme which would, of course, put the song in my head for a while. By the way, I have indeed seen all the Indiana Jones movies
6. Why Should I Worry
Another song that's been stuck in my head since childhood. This one is from Oliver and Company if you didn't know. Most of the time I just get the chorus stuck in my head on repeat.
7. Macarena
Do I really need to explain this one? It is such an earworm.
8. Six Flags Theme
I associate this song as Six Flag's theme song and even though it has been a long time since I had heard this song, it still gets stuck in my head. Just the other night this popped into my head as I was trying to fall asleep.
9. Move It Move It
Part of the reason this one gets stuck in my head so often is because my middle school used to play this song every single day to warn us that the first class of the day was about to start. Needless to say, I don't exactly have positive memories towards this song because I would prefer to forget about the embarrassment that was middle school.
10. Smooth Criminal
Again, it is for some reason always a cover version, specifically the one by Alien Ant Farm and I honestly don't know why. I haven't exactly heard this song for a while, original or cover, so I don't know why this one pops up in my head or why it is always the Alien Ant Farm version.

BONUS!
You know when you get a song you don't like stuck in your head so you try your hardest to think of another song to get it out of your head? Well, here are two ridiculous songs that I know word for word and when I don't want a certain song stuck in my head, these are my go-tos.

I Need to Meet Richard Dreyfuss

My Name Is Nick
This song is not on Youtube but is on Bandcamp. If you click on the album cover above you can hear this ridiculous song.

Sidenote: I found these songs separately, but it turns out these guys are friends and actually perform comedy musicals together!

So, did I get any songs stuck in your head? What songs seem to be earworms for you?

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Enjoyed but Have Fewer than 2,000 Ratings on Goodreads

Hosted each week by That Artsy Reader Girl, it's a meme for listing the top ten for everything bookish.

This week's topic is books with less than 2,000 Ratings on Goodreads, so I searched my Goodreads list for books that for some reason don't get much notice on Goodreads. All covers are linked to the Goodreads page.

1. Rebel Wing by Tracy Banghart

719 Ratings on Goodreads

This is such a fantastic book, about a girl joining a war (disguised as a man) in a dystopian world. It honestly does not get as much attention it deserves. You can read my review here.

2. Forbidden by Kimberley Griffiths Little

1.533 Ratings on Goodreads

This is probably one of the few YA series out there that take place in ancient Mesopotamia, which is interesting in itself. This is one of those series where my interest grew which each book.

3. Of Sea and Stone by Kate Avery Ellison

560 Ratings on Goodreads

Kate Avery Ellison is one of my favorite independent authors. Out of all of her series, this book series is my favorite. Like the Forbidden series above, the series gets more and more interesting over time.

4. The Secret Horses of Briar Hill by Megan Shepherd
1,534 Ratings on Goodreads

This book is a combination of historical and magical realism, taking place in a home for children with TB and a young girl who discovers a horse that needs help from a dark force. It's a short book and a sad book, but it is a beautiful book.

5. Caterpillar by Kate Oliver

66 Ratings on Goodreads

I'm not that surprised that this one does not have very many ratings. It is next to impossible to find anymore. I downloaded it for free at one point and since then it has been made unavailable. It makes me a bit sad because I loved this book, which is an alien book (you will notice a theme of those later in this post), and I can't even read the next book because that one also disappeared.

6. Earth & Sky by Megan Crewe

805 Ratings on Goodreads

Here's another alien book! (I told you that would be a theme) This book doesn't seem to be very popular on Goodreads, though I absolutely loved it and the rest of the series! You can read my review here.

7. Broken Skies by Theresa Kay

1,394 Ratings on Goodreads

And another alien book. Are alien books just not very popular on Goodreads if they aren't by Armentrout? You can read my review of this book here.

8. The Year of Shadows by Claire Legrand

1,052 Ratings on Goodreads

Claire Legrand is an author that I always like to watch out for. The Year of Shadows is a book that really introduced me to Legrand's fantastic writing. I thought it was a really entertaining middlegrade book, but for some reason, it is the least read out of Legrand's books.

9. The Holders by Julianna Scott

1,001 Ratings on Goodreads

To be honest, I don't remember much about this book, just that I really loved it. I remember that I expected a typical YA book, but turned out to be much more. You can read my review here.

10. New Beginnings by Victoria Schwab

1,174 Ratings on Goodreads

It's a bit odd that a book by Schwab has so few ratings since she is such a well-known author, but this book series has fallen through the cracks and it shouldn't. Don't let the cover fool you, this is a powerful book and it discusses tough subjects. Just like Schwab's other books, it is written incredibly well.

Anyway! Those are some books that I enjoyed but don't seem to get much Goodreads love! What quiet books do you think need more love on Goodreads?

Top Ten Tuesday: Thirteen Books That Have Been Sitting On My TBR Shelf FOREVER!

Hosted each week by The Broke and the Bookish, it's a meme for listing the top ten for everything bookish.

Okay, so I'm horrible at finishing series and my TBR list is over a thousand books long. So, there are a lot of books that I haven't gotten a chance to read. Here we go...

The Ones that Have LITERALLY Sat On My Shelf For More Than Four Years

The story is the same for all three of these. I read the previous book in the series and immediately bought the next book! I bought Spiral the day it came out (May 2012), Masquerade was bought either late 2011 or early 2012, and Betrayal was also bought May 2012. With all of these, I would need to reread the previous books in order to start up again. Which sucks for Spiral, since that's the 5th book in a series of bricks.

Some Other Series That I Never Seemed to Continue

It may be obvious by now that I am horrible at finishing series. I never bought any of these books, but all of these were added to my TBR shortly after I joined Goodreads in March of 2012, which means that I actually put off some of these books for more than 4 years (I have no idea how long for sure because before Goodreads was a dark time). Sad thing is, while some of these series were meh, I actually really enjoyed some of these..

There are some other books from early Goodreads that I haven't gotten a chance to read, but those are all stand alones or first books, so I don't feel as if hope is lost! Now, I bet there are plenty of bloggers who've had books sitting on their shelves for a decade or more, but before Goodreads, I spontaneously checked out books from the library and actually completed series!

So, what books have been on your TBR for a few years?

Top Ten Tuesday:Ten Books I'd Buy Right This Second If Someone Handed Me A Fully Loaded Gift Card (And A Time Machine)

Hosted each week by The Broke and the Bookish, it's a meme for listing the top ten for everything bookish.

Okay so I added that last part, but all of the books I NEED right now aren't out yet, so a time machine would be handy. Anyway, all of these books need to be in my hands NOW!
So, what books would you buy?
