REVIEW: Bitten by Kelley Armstrong

Bitten (Women of the Otherworld #1)
Elena Michaels is the world’s only female werewolf. And she’s tired of it. Tired of a life spent hiding and protecting, a life where her most important job is hunting down rogue werewolves. Tired of a world that not only accepts the worst in her–her temper, her violence–but requires it. Worst of all, she realizes she’s growing content with that life, with being that person.

So she left the Pack and returned to Toronto where she’s trying to live as a human. When the Pack leader calls asking for her help fighting a sudden uprising, she only agrees because she owes him. Once this is over, she’ll be squared with the Pack and free to live life as a human. Which is what she wants. Really.

MY THOUGHTS
This book focuses on Elena. She was bitten and betrayed by someone she thought she loved years ago. Now she's a werewolf. She has since left the Pack and is trying to have a semi-normal life. She has a boyfriend and a job, just has to change into a wolf on occasion. But when she receives a call about a threat to the Pack she has to go back. After all this is over, she's going to leave, but does she want to pretend to be human or stay with the only family she has ever known?

I picked up this book because A) I've enjoyed Kelley Armstrong's YA books and B) I thought I should try to read books that are not YA. I'm going to start complaining here, but I have realized why I have trouble reading adult books. Adult books have more sex in them. Yeah, I'm a bit of a prude. I can stand to have it in books, but NEVER IN DETAIL! Apparently it happens much more often in adult books and it never just jumps to the next morning! *shudders* This is probably not a big deal, but I always have a hard time reading books because of this.

As for the story, it's nothing really that new to me in the paranormal variety, I've read plenty of werewolf books, but I still enjoyed it. This book need have it's own different twist on werewolves and even had the history down pat! I thought it was interesting how the dynamics worked and how Elena was the only female werewolf. My only issue was the while a lot happened, I felt like this book was moving very slowly. I'm used to reading a book a day, more in the summer (which is when I read this). It took me three days to read this. It felt like I was slugging through this book!

I actually kind of liked the romance, when it didn't include sex. I wanted Elena to be with Clay, because I actually liked Clay. Though, Elena did bother me because she can't being with Clay (even though she wanted nothing to do with him) and never once while she was with the Pack did she think about Phillip, he boyfriend. I know I sound like I'm going back and forth, but I don't approve of any sort of cheating and I really think that she should've at least thought of Phillip.

IN CONCLUSION
I liked this book, though not as much as Kelley Armstrong's YA books. I had issues with the sex in the books, which is why I prefer YA, and it was really slow. Still, I enjoyed this book and it's a great start to a paranormal series. I plan on reading the rest eventually, but I won't be jumping up and grabbing them right away.

I hereby give this book
3 Wheels
Meaning: I liked it
