REVIEW: Earth & Sky by Megan Crewe

Earth & Sky (Earth & Sky, #1)Seventeen-year-old Skylar has been haunted for as long as she can remember by fleeting yet powerful sensations that something is horribly wrong. But despite the panic attacks tormenting her, nothing ever happens, and Sky’s beginning to think she’s crazy. Then she meets a mysterious, otherworldly boy named Win and discovers the shocking truth her premonitions have tapped into: our world no longer belongs to us. For thousands of years, Earth has been at the mercy of alien scientists who care nothing for its inhabitants and are using us as the unwitting subjects of their time-manipulating experiments. Win belongs to a rebel faction seeking to put a stop to it, and he needs Skylar’s help--but with each shift in the past, the very fabric of reality is unraveling, and soon there may be no Earth left to save.

MY THOUGHTS
For some odd reason, I was expecting a dystopian book. I guess I didn't really read the synopsis. But I ended up being surprised and enjoyed this book so much more than I thought I would!
Turns out, this book had two of my favorite things: Aliens and Time Travel.

I admit it, the main reason why I love this book so much is that it incorporated these two amazing things, but they were incorporated in a way that was so interesting. The idea behind this book is both unique and disturbing. The aliens in this book have basically been experimenting with Earth for thousands of years changing the past and changing lives so often that it is unraveling the Earth. I've heard of aliens time travel (Doctor Who happens to be my favorite TV show), but I've never read a book like this and I found it very interesting. Overall, the book was very fast-paced and exciting, trying to see if Win and Skylar can actually help fix the planet.

As far of the characters go, I liked them. I couldn't fully connect with Skylar, mostly because we're so different, but I felt for her (especially about her brother.

There was hardly any romance in this book. There is a hint that maybe more in future books, but this book focused on the actual plot, which I approve of.

The only problem I had was that a few things didn't quite add up. The world-building, while I loved the ideas, felt weak. For example: I never really understood why the aliens kept experimenting. Was it for the fun of it? And I felt like I didn't get enough answers. I also had issues in the beginning in how quickly Win trusted Skylar with these alien secrets. I got over it, but it's kind of strange.

IN CONCLUSION
If you love books with Time Travel or Aliens, definitely pick up this book! I thought it was great and I am definitely continuing the series! I'm also going to check out other books by this author!

I hereby give this book
5 Wheels!
Meaning: A new favorite!

  1. I got this from Netgalley too! It sounds fantastic, and I am so happy to hear there's no overbearing romance in here. *whew* Great review! :)
