REVIEW: Linked by Imogen Howson

Linked (Linked #1)
Elissa used to have it all: looks, popularity, and a bright future. But for the last three years, she’s been struggling with terrifying visions, phantom pains, and mysterious bruises that appear out of nowhere.
Finally, she’s promised a cure: minor surgery to burn out the overactive area of her brain. But on the eve of the procedure, she discovers the shocking truth behind her hallucinations: she’s been seeing the world through another girl’s eyes.
Elissa follows her visions, and finds a battered, broken girl on the run. A girl—Lin—who looks exactly like Elissa, down to the matching bruises. The twin sister she never knew existed.
Now, Elissa and Lin are on the run from a government who will stop at nothing to reclaim Lin and protect the dangerous secrets she could expose—secrets that would shake the very foundation of their world.

Riveting, thought-provoking and utterly compelling, Linked will make you question what it really means to be human.

THE RUN-DOWN
For the past few years Elissa has been going from doctor to doctor to find a cure from her horrible visions. Visions that are more like nightmares with extreme pains and bruises.
Finally, she finds a doctor that can cure her, by doing surgery. Elissa is worried, but relieved that she can finally have a normal life again. But when she finds out that the visions weren't visions at all, but her slipping into the life of another girl, Elissa waves goodbye to normal...

MY THOUGHTS
It's extremely hard for me to write a review on this without spoilers, since so much happens in this book, so be aware of that.
I'll start with saying that i'm surprised at how heavy the sci-fi was in this book.
It's obvious from the blurb that there's some sci-fi (the visions, the girl), but what it doesn't say is that THIS BOOK TAKES PLACE IN THE FUTURE!! And i'm not talking about a few years into the future, i'm talking about hundreds, maybe thousands. I absolutely had no problem with this. In fact, it made the story much more exciting.

Now onto the characters.
I found the characters real. While they might have annoyed me, I understand why they were that way.
(I always come up with excuses for how a character acts).

As for the story, I loved it!
I loved the idea of the "link".
I also loved everything else but that would be spoiling everything.

The one thing I didn't like was that there is a little bit of kids with superpowers. This is a trend in YA that is beginning to annoy me. It also didn't really seem necessary.

As for the ending, it seemed final, which is how I like endings. The kind of endings that ties everything up into a nice pretty bow. But there's going to be a sequel, which, to be honest, doesn't make much sense. This book definitely has a stand-alone feel to it.

IN CONCLUSION

Overall, I really liked this book and I apologize for being vague about my thoughts (But SPOILERS are not fun!). I'm surprised at the number of people that disliked this book, though, but that is their opinion (Apparently, they found this book dull?). But neither-the-less, I enjoyed this book and I do recommend it.

I hereby give this book
4 Wheels!
Meaning: It was amazing!

  1. I'm one of the ones who disliked it (well, not disliked per say, since I didn't even finish it) couldn't get passed to info dumps if I'm honest, and I tried like three times and kept going back to it, but didn't get further than 100 pages. :/ At least you enjoyed it more though! :)
